Philemon's parents were David BEERY and Susanna HUFFORD. Philemon first married Sarah Ann CURTIS on December 31, 1846. with Sarah, he had four children: Herbert M., Alice, Rose A. (died young), and Charles. Philemon's wife Sarah died in 1857. In 1858, he 2ndly married Elizabeth C. "Lizzie" PERSING. With Lizzie, he had a daughter, Jennie. Lizzie died in 1863. Sometime before 1870, Philemon married a 3rd time, to Emma (last name unknown).

In 1860, he was living in Clyde, Sandusky Co., Ohio, working as a clerk. He was living with his 2nd wife (Elizabeth) and children Herbert, Alice, and Charles (from 1st marriage), and infant daughter Jennie (from 2nd marriage). In 1870, he was a merchant, living in New York City with his 3rd wife (Emma) and children Jennie (11), Alice (21), Charles (16), Herbert (22).

Philemon is named with his parents and siblings on page 166 of the 1909 HUFFORD FAMILY HISTORY.

The New York Times, 04 Sep 1883, p5:
"Mr Philemon B. Beery, formerly a prominent merchant of this City, died at Mendham, N.J., Friday, at the age of 59 years. Mr Beery was born in Ohio, and was for many years a merchant in Clyde in that State. He came to this City in 1860 and entered the wholesale dry goods house of Clark, Pardee, Bates & Co. Three years later, when the firm of Pardee, Bates & Co. was formed, he became one of the partners. In 1866 the firm of Bartlett, Beery & Co. was established, and in 1871 the firm became Bartlett, Beery, Reed & Co. Upon the dissolution of the last named firm, in 1873, he retired from business. He was a man of great energy and force, and much esteemed and respected in the business world. The body was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery yesterday."
