Pearl Myree Gayle-Smith, 96, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2012 in Lawton.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at the Central High Baptist Church, with Rev. Darrell Blaine and Rev. Marvin Knox officiating. Burial will be in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow.

Family visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Pearl was born Wednesday, March 29, 1916 in Haskell, Texas, to Joseph Avery and Nettie Crist (Nikirk) Lee. Pearl lived in the Marlow area most of her life. She graduated from high school in Haskell, Texas and later attended Cameron and OSU, attaining a bachelor's degree in education. Pearl married Dwight (Doc) Gayle on May 10, 1941 in Marlow. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1991. She later married John L. Smith on June 4, 1995 at Central Baptist Church. He preceded her in death in April 2009. Pearl loved teaching, and taught for a total of 43 years at Rock Springs County School, Central High and was a 1st grade teacher in Marlow from 1951-1981. She was honored as the Marlow Teacher of the Year 1979-1980 and was a lifetime member of the Oklahoma Education Association and National Education Association. Pearl was listed in the 1979 edition of "Community Leaders and Noteworthy Americans" and "Who's Who" in American Schools. She was also a charter member of the Delta Sigma Sorority. Pearl enjoyed life, loved to travel and played tennis. She loved spending time with her grandsons and great-grandchildren. Pearl was a charter member of the Central Baptist Church and served as church clerk for many years. She enjoyed working with the youth and helping at Falls Creek. She was very proud of 51 years of perfect attendance in Sunday School and her book, "The Fifty Year History of the Central Baptist Church."

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Pauline Alcorn, Leona Lee and Thelma Bowers and one brother, Oscar Lee.

Pallbearers will be: Blake Waller, Trae Norman, Dave Webber, Eddie Benton, Otey B. Enoch, Jerry Hunter.
