Funeral Services
Set for Tomorrow

J. Jordan Leake,for many years an outstanding lawyer here,died late Friday at his home in Monroe Terrace. He had been ill for several months.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 P.M.,Sunday in Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church by the Rev. Clayton Torrence. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

The passing of Mr. Leake removes a member of the seventh generation of the family in Virginia. His for-bears settled in what is now Goochland County in 1685.

He is survived by his wife,the former Lisa Foulke Beirne, whom he married Dec. 7,1904,and a brother Stuart C. Leake,of Richmond.In addition,he leaves two nieces,Mrs.Martha C. Patton,of Richmond,and Mrs. Robert P. Thomas,of Wytheville,and two nephews,the Rev. J. Lindsay Patton,of Colorado Springs,Col. and W.J.L. Patton,of New York.

Born at Ashland
Mr. Leake was born at Ashland, in Hanover County, Feb. 13,1870. He was the son of Judge William J. Leake and Mrs. Sarah Jordan Leake. His father was at one time president of the Richmond,Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad.

He attended school in Ashland and was a student for three years in Norwood's University School in Richmond. He entered Randolph Macon College in 1885 and received his A.M. degree from the institution.

Mr. Leake taught mathematics at Randolph-Macon and received his law degree from the college in 1893. He was elected by Randolph Macon to honorary membership in Phi Beta Kappa.

Admitted to the bar in Richmond in June 1893, Mr. Leake formed a partnership the following year with William C. Preston, under the firm name of Preston and Leake. That association continued until Mr. Preston's death in 1901.

Since that time Mr. Leake has conducted a general civil practice, in 1908 he became associated with A. Sidney Buford,Jr., under the firm of Leake and Buford.

Director in Bank
Mr. Leake was active for many years in financial,legal and civic affairs in Richmond. He was a director in the State-Planters Bank and Trust Company,the Mutual Assurance Society of Virginia and German-American Building and Loan Corporation. He also served as a director of the Virginia Fire and Marine Insurance Company.

He was President of the Richmond Bar Association in 1913 and during World War I served as a member of the legal Advisory Board in Richmond. He served also as a member of the advisory board of the Virginia Home for Incurables and of the Richmond Exchange for Women's Work. He was a trustee of the St. John's Church Foundation.He was a member and had served as a vice-president of the Virginia Historical Society and was a former president of the local organization of the Sons of the American Revolution. He held membership in the Society of Colonial Wars.

For 15 years Mr. Leake was a teacher in the Sunday school of Grace and Holy Trinity Church and was its superintendent for 14 years. He was a member of the vestry for more than 25 years and resigned recently as senior warden and was made senior warden emeritus.

The active pallbearers will be Alfred P. Goddin,L.B. Gunn,Moffett King,Jr.,Bernard Meredith,Carlton P. Moffatt,Thomas L. Preston,Edward H. Trigg and Littleton M. Wickham.

Mr. Leake married Lisa Foulke Beirne, a daughter of Richard F. Beirne and Clara Haxall Grundy Beirne.
