Son of Benjamin and Keziah (Hill) Howe.

Simeon and his wife of thirteen years, Abigail, were recorded in the 1850 census at Gardner. Mr. Howe was a chairmaker. His recently widowed brother, Harrison, 31, and his three kids lived nearby. They were listed by the census taker right before Simeon, 36, Abigail, 36, and their children: Augustus S., 10, Marcus H., 8, Adaline F., 6, and Marshall M., 4.

Five years later the family had increased by one more son, Charles H., who was born in 1851. The Howes also had a lady, Fanny Seaver, 21, residing with them. Augustus, 16, was listed as Simeon A. in this census. He was already put to work as a chairmaker just like his father.

In 1860 Simeon and Abigail's eldest child was noticeably missing from the household. He was replaced by their youngest son, Willie F., who was born in 1856. Mr. Howe was still a chairmaker. Marcus, 18, found a job as a painter. Adeline, 17, earned a paycheck adding the seat part to chair frames.

Sadly, the Howes' only daughter passed away in 1861. In 1865 their four youngest sons were still at home when the state census was taken. Marcus, Marshall and their father were all listed as chairmakers.

In 1866 Marcus married his wife, Frances "Frankie" Flint. They were counted at his parents' house, in 1870, along with their first child, Mary E. Howe, who was born in the summer of 1868. Simeon had become a farmer. Charles was a farm worker. Marshall was a teamster. Marcus worked at a chair shop.

The final census that included Mr. Simeon Howe was taken in 1880. The Howe household went as follows: Simeon, 67, farmer, Abigail, 67, Charles, 28, express agent, Willie, 23, flour and grain, Marcus, 28, chair shop worker, Frances, 31, Lizzie, 11, Adaline, 8, and Lucius, 1. Two boarders resided there as well: John Blood, 25, and George Wiley, 28. They were both teamsters.
