Kate Gorman immigrated to the United States from Poland in 1893. She entered the country under the name of Carolina Graumann. Her husband traveled to the US 5 months ahead of her which left her to make the passage traveling alone in steerage class with four young children. She gave birth to 12 children, two of whom died in infancy. In 1899 the family immigrated to Canada but, again, her husband returned to the US ahead of her and she was left alone to farm and raise the younest children for about 11 years. The family reunited in the US around 1921. She died seven years later in an electric streetcar accident. She was a strong woman who was faithful to her children, her faith, and her husband.
