He was born a twin on April 11, 1936 in the town of Sampson, Chippewa County to Grace (Mattson) and John Avery. He was raised in the town of Sampson and worked on the family farm. He then did construction for L.G. Arnold in Eau Claire working on highway projects.
Chet moved to Chippewa Falls in 1978 where he resided at the Hotel Northern Apartments.
Survivors include a sister, Inez (Herman) Brandstetter of New Auburn; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Agatha "Daisy" and Nona Schoonover and twin sister, Esther Bishop; and a brother, Roy Avery.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 1 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel with Chet's nephew, Wayne O'Conner, officiating. Interment will be in Island Lake Cemetery, Rusk County.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service Sunday at the funeral chapel.
