Jane Caroline Hovey
1872 – 1957

Jane Caroline Hovey, daughter of Ole A. and Bertha Nelson Hovey, was born in the town of Naples, May 16, 1872. In 1890 she moved with her parents to Mondovi where she lived until 1931. After her mother's death in 1915, Jane had continued to make her home with her brother Iver's family with whom she moved to Eau Claire in 1931.
Jane Hovey was for many years an active member of the First Methodist Church of Mondovi. Much of her work was with young people in the Epworth League and as first grade teacher in the Sunday school. In recent years she has held her church membership in Lake Street Methodist Church, Eau Claire.
Since girlhood Jane has had to fight against ill health, but with regular care she was able to lead an active life until recent years. In September 1949 a broken leg curtailed her physical activities with a long confinement at Luther Hospital and later at the Incani Convalescent Hospital in Eau Claire. In January 1951 she returned to the Incani Hospital, later known as Hillview Home in Eau Claire where she has since made her home.
There were eight brothers and two sisters in the Hovey family, several of whom were longtime residents of Mondovi: Mrs. Martha Thames, Iver, Ole, Ben, and Albert. The other brothers were John, Nels, Andrew, and Julius. Jane is survived by a number of nieces and nephews who have many happy memories of "Aunt Jane."
She passed away Sunday evening June 30, at the Eau Claire County Home for the Aged.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Floyd Fahlgren at the Colby and Hemer Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon, July 2. Burial was in Oak Park Cemetery.
