Rowland Jr was married to Eddie Sue Bodow-Bryarly on 20 June 1908 at St John's Protestant Episcopal Church in Roanoke, Virginia, and they had one son:

Rowland Thornton Bryarly III (1908-1988).

Rowland Jr passed away on 27 January 1935 in Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia, and he was buried at Mount Hebron Cemetery in Winchester, Frederick County (present day Winchester City), Virginia.
