Ann Allen Ray, of Roswell, passed away on Feb. 28, 2009, in Lubbock, Texas, from complications resulting from hip surgery.

Ann was born to Marjorie A. and J. R. Potsy Allen on Sept. 27, 1937, in Austin, Texas. She attended school in Roswell and graduated from Roswell Senior High in 1955. She then attended the University of Texas in Austin, graduating in 1962 with a master's degree in English, and continued on to obtain a doctorate of philosophy. After living in Beloit, Wisc., where she was associated with Beloit College, Ann returned to Roswell in August, 1997, to pursue her writing.

Ann is survived by her mother, Marjorie A. Schulz, and her step-father, Col. Robert H. Schulz, of Roswell; her brother, Howard A. Allen, of San Diego, Calif.; her nephews, J. R. Allen, of Dallas, Texas, and Todd Allen of Los Angeles, Calif. She was predeceased by her father, older brother J.R. Allen, of Austin, and niece, Adria Allen, of San Diego, Calif.

Private services will be held for the family at the Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, Texas, where Ann will be buried in the Amason-Allen family plot. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
