MRS. E. M. LUNDIEN DIED IN ILLINOIS MARCH 21

One of Dayton's Prominent Women In Early Days

Word came to relatives in Dayton Sunday morning that Mrs. E. M. (Fern) Lundien had passed away late Saturday afternoon in Danville, Illinois, where she had been making her home with her daughter, Miss Bernice Lundien. Death came quite suddenly, we are informed, but Mrs. Lundien had lived a full life of near 88 years. Many were grieved and saddened by the death of their good friend. Burial was made in the family lot in Dayton yesterday (Wednesday) forenoon.

Mrs. Lundien was one of Dayton's early teachers and was principal for several years. Her life was spent in the service to others, unselfish, always kind, and with rare good humor. Among her constructive duties in Dayton was the organization of the Dayton High School Alumni Association and the Dayton Woman's Club. She was also superintendent of the Methodist Sunday School and taught several of the classes there. She was called upon often in those days for guidance and she was always happy to share her wisdom.

The writer has always considered it a privilege to have known Mrs. Lundien. She was our Sunday School Teacher, and entertained our group many times in her home in Dayton, where Mrs. Claude Anderson lives at the present time. Probably no one else knows that, as a little boy, we brought our troubles to her, and felt much better after listening to her words of advice. She was the most understanding person we have ever known. We have lost a fine personal friend and Dayton has lost a sincere and loyal citizen.
