Dr. Robert Hunter Dalton was born February 21, 1806, Rockingham Co., NC, the son of Nicholas & Rachel [Hunter] Dalton. Dr. Dalton's maternal grandparents were Col. James Hunter and Mary [McFarland]of Beaver Island Creek, Rockingham Co., NC.

Dr. Dalton received his medical degree in 1828, and married Jane Martin [Henderson] at her father's plantation, Mount Pleasant, Rockingham Co., NC, on January 6, 1832.

Dr. Dalton practiced medicine in Livingston, Sumter Co., AL; Aberdeen, Monroe Co.,MS; and St. Louis, MO.

He died at the home of his daughter, Katherine Henderson [Dalton] Smith in Tacoma, Pierce Co., WA, on January 21, 1900.
