Dr. Gurthel Irene (Lee) Cox
COX, GURTHEL IRENE Dr. Gurthel Irene (Lee) Cox, age 86, of Pinson, Alabama, passed away July 2, 2012. She was a retired Art Educator, member of 1st Baptist Church of Trussville, and the Grace Sunday School Class, was a devoted Christian, Church Leader and supportive Minister's Wife. Mrs. Cox was a dedicated mother, wife and educator. Art teacher in all levels of Ala. Public schools, Art Consultant for the Ala. Dept. of Education, Art professor at Jefferson State Jr. College, and Marshall University in Ohio. She attended Jefferson County High School, Huntington College, BA, and University of Alabama, MA, PhD. She was preceded in death by her parents Samuel Sidney and Cora Ioma Lee, sisters Ethel Hockhalter, June Beasley, and Ruby Shockley, brother Jack Lee, and grandson Joey Cox. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 5, at 10am in the Chapel with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Rev. Dr. William Cox will officiate. Visitation will be from 9am until 10am Thursday. She is survived by her husband of 70 years Rev. Billy J. Cox, daughters Janet Stovall and Kathryn Reeder, son Rev. Dr. William Cox, sisters Retha Grace, and Doris Jean Moncrief, grandchildren Coleman Cox, Elizabeth Cox, Jay Reeder, Lindsey Reeder, Lisa (Reeder) Mammola, and pallbearer grandsons: Brad Cox, Josh Cox, Jeffry Reeder, Lee Reeder, Craig Stovall, Shane Stovall and 15 great grandchildren.
