Saltillo - Juanita Cowley Akin Waters, 97, entered her heavenly home on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at the Greenhouses in Tupelo. She was born November 19, 1925, to the late Thelbert and Mary Cowley. She graduated from Saltillo High School as valedictorian of her class. She was a long-time, faithful member of First Baptist Church, Saltillo, where she was the oldest living member. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for many years. She had a true servant's heart, spending her life caring for others. She faithfully volunteered in her church's ministries, while also checking on anyone in need.

She is survived by her son, Mike Akin (Betty) and her daughter, Cheryl Bradley (Paul Wayne); three granddaughters, Michele Kennedy (Todd), Leigh Anne Newton (Brian) and Ginger Reynolds (Eric); and nine great-grandchildren, Olivia Orr, Reagan Newton, Wes Newton, Easton Reynolds, Cole Reynolds, Luke Reynolds, Will Reynolds, and Sydney Reynolds; her family friend and caregiver, Teresa Price; her special "girl caregivers" at the Griffis House; host of other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years Johnny Akin, and later in life, her husband Harold Waters.

Services will be Friday, September 15, at 3:00 p. m. at First Baptist Saltillo with Bro. Danny Boudreaux and Bro. Ron McCully officiating. Burial will be in the Saltillo Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, the families request that donations be made to the First Baptist Church Saltillo Building Fund.

Visitation will be Friday, September 15 at 1:00 p.m. until the service.
