Floyd R. Birkes, age 75, or Flora, IL formerly of Oklahoma City, OK died at 11:20 PM on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at Palm Terrace in Mattoon, IL.

He was born on April 8, 1937 in Braman, OK to Floyd O. Birkes and Cora (Lackey) Birkes. He married Peggy S. York on July 27, 1960 in Great Bend, KS. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2009.

Floyd was a truck driver throughout his life, meeting people throughout America. He was a U.S. Army veteran and had been a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by a sister: Sue Yates; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 3 brothers (John, Bill, Harvey), and 4 sisters (Addie, Edna, Sylvia, Betty).

A graveside service for Floyd Birkes was held at Elmwood Cemetery, Flora.

Frank & Bright Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to Clay County Cancer Support Group.
