Rev. Willie James, age 91, of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away peacefully on Friday,
December 20, 2013. Visitation will be 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Saturday December 21,
2013 at the Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield. Services will be held at the
Southern Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday December 22, 2013 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Norris
Curry presiding. He will be laid to rest beside his wife, Myrtis, of 61 years in the
Beech Creek Cemetery, Winn Parish.

He was born at Flat Creek in Winn Parish on November 29, 1922 to the union of Willie
and Dottie Spangler James. He is preceded in death by his wife, Myrtis Grace Terral
James; his son, Larry Dale James; his parents, and his eight brothers and eight
sisters.

Rev. James served in WWII as a Sergeant in the 2nd Air Force H2S, Colorado Springs.
Following military service, he was privileged to pastor at numerous churches in and
around Winn Parish, including Old Union Baptist Church in Joyce, Louisiana;
Friendship (Mineral Springs) Baptist Church in Sikes, Louisiana; the First Baptist
Church in Sikes, Louisiana, and several other churches in the area. He was a
life-long Mason, as a member of the Eastern Star Lodge in Winnfield, and Past Master
of Rosemary Lodge in Hebron, Louisiana.

He is survived by three sons: Jackie James and wife Jacqua Ubanks James of Dodson;
Ben James and wife Rita Womack James of Winnfield; and Terry James and wife Loy
Sterling James of Baton Rouge. Other survivors include seven grandchildren: Traci
James Canterbury (Robert), Shaun James (Angel), Scott James (Lexi), Tara James Jones
(Jason), Theresa James, Toni James Parker (Danny), and Colt James; ten
great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

At Rev. James's wishes, pallbearers will be Donnie Maxey, Lynn Maxey, nephews Billy
James, David James, and grandsons Shaun James and Scott James.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Beech Creek Cemetery Fund, or a
church of choice.
