He was the son of Jesse Lonzo "LON" Herndon and Ethel Lindsey-Herndon of Troy,MS.Siblings are Mattie Lou,John William"Johnny" and Joe.He also had 11 half brothers and sisters from Lon's first marriage to Betty Weeks.
He served in the Marine Corps from 1954-57 with overseas duty.
He loved hunting,fishing,sports and gardening.
He retired from Standard Candy Company they made the famous GooGoo that was advertised on the Grand Ole Opry for many years.Dad was known as the GooGoo Man.
Every Valentines day he would bring home a heart shaped box of candy with a doll on top for my sister and I.
Married to Glenda Franks for 53 years.
Her parents are Leon,Thelma Sanders Franks.
Leon's family helped to start Flatwoods Baptist Church along with the Sanders her mothers people. Alot of the people buried at the cemetery are related.
Dad died of Heart failure due to complications of being a diabetic which came about in his late 60's.
He had been on dialysis for about 5 years.
