Katherine Gunter Beard, 81, of 318 Lafayette Avenue, Martinsville, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
She was born in Salem on Sept. 15, 1920, to the late Lemuel Gordon Gunter and the late Sallie Virginia Caves Gunter.
She worked for DuPont of Martinsville for approximately 11 years as a supervisor, from the 1940s until her retirement in 1953. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Martinsville, where she taught Sunday school for more than 30 years, the W.M.U., the Reed Sunday school class, and had been a member and vice president of Circle No. 3 and Circle No. 6.
Surviving are her husband, Alvis B. "Al" Beard of the home; one son, Al Beard of Lexington, S.C.; one sister, Virginia Gunter LaPrad of Eden, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church of Martinsville, with Pastor Ronald W. Mateer officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
Visitation will be today from 7 p.m to 8:30 p.m. at McKee-Stone Funeral Services.
