GREENFIELD -- Shirley E. (Lowell) Kelton, 80, of 38 Orchard St. died Saturday (7-14-01) at home.
Born in Hartford, Conn., Feb. 8, 1921, she was the daughter of Walter and Jane (Aitchenson) Lowell. She grew up in Buckland and attended local schools. She was a 1939 graduate of the former Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls.
In the early 1940s, she worked in Northampton and Connecticut.
She was married to Allan H. Kelton in Mary Lyon Church, Aug. 9, 1944. Her husband was in the Navy. They were stationed at naval bases in Hawaii, Virginia, Cuba, Florida and other areas. Retirement from the Navy after 30 years brought them back to this area. They lived in Ashfield and South Deerfield. She lived in Greenfield the past three years. He died May 10, 1995.
Survivors include a son, a daughter, a brother, two sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place Sunday, July 22, at 2 p.m. at Mary Lyon Church with the Rev. Terrence Hanley, pastor, officiating. Following the service, a reception will take place in the church hall. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Ladies Guild of Mary Lyon Church, Upper Street, Buckland, MA 01338. Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, Shelburne Falls, is in charge of arrangements.
