CHANUTE TIMES, DECEMBER 24, 1897

The funeral of Mrs. Sarah E. Royster who died Thursday afternoon was held at the family residence at 2:30 pm Sunday. Rev. Godfrey of the Presbyterian church conducted the services and the remains were taken to Elmwood cemetery for interment.
Miss Sarah E. Locke was born in Henderson county, Kentucky, September 2, 1843 and was united in marriage to Mr. W. W. Royster in October, 1862. Mr. Royster with his family were among the first settlers of Chanute. Mrs. Royster lived a constant life as a member of the Presbyterian church.
She was distinctly a home-loving woman, a devoted wife and mother. She leaves a husband and 4 children living. Eliza and E. W. Royster are at home, Anna is the wife of William Cady of Augusta, and John is practicing medicine in the territory; also an only sister, Miss Belle Locke, who has been a member of the family for years. The bereaved family have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in this city.
