Elmer James Slates of Three Springs, R.D., died at the home of his nephew George R. Fields at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 1945. He was the son of the late Jacob and Sophia (Cowans) Slates and was born in Clay township, Huntingdon County, on April 24, 1866. Surviving are five sons: Benjamin F. Slates, Pitcairn; Clarence Slates, Three Springs; Howard Slates, Altoona; Homer Slates, Pitcairn; and Kenneth Slates, Irvin. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at the Cherry Grove Church at 2 o'clock on Friday, the Rev. Joseph Miller officiating. Interment will be made in the Cherry Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the George Fields home after Thursday at 10 o'clock and until the hour of the service.
