Phillip "Phil" Ronald Gomez, 58, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed away peacefully Friday March 17, 2006, at his home, after a long battle with cancer. He was born August 2, 1947, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, to Sam and Edwina Gomez. He graduated Las Cruces High School in 1965 and then attended New Mexico State University where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in 1972. Phil served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve being Honorably Discharged in 1973 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. In 1977, he was selected as an Outstanding Young Man of America for his superior leadership and exceptional service to the community. He earned his Realtor license in 1979, before going to work for Warner Lambert. He was currently employed by DEX Media. He loved being outdoors and was a professional B.A.S.S. fisherman. Phil was a member of the Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. As a Brother Knight, Phil was the District Deputy of district #12, and was the Knight of the Year Council #1226 in 1996. Serving as a Brother Knight, Phil gave back to our community over and over, reaching from Las Cruces, throughout the State, to Mexico. He showed the value of unity, leadership and teamwork to the youth of our community by revitalizing the Squire Youth Group and being the Coach of the Knights Hockey team. He will be missed by all that knew him, loved him and those who sought guidance in his words. "We're brothers in the true sense of fraternity-of being Christian soldiers of the Knights of Columbus."

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Judy C. Gomez, of the family home, son, Micheal S. Gomez, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and daughter, Marcella Montoya, of Las Cruces, New Mexico. He is also survived by one brother, Samuel Gomez, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, two sisters, Cynthia Gomez, of Gallup, New Mexico, and Cecilia Marquez, of Albuquerque, New Mexico and by five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
