Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Pittsburgh PA, Thursday 24 July 1902 - JAMES FIFE died at the old Fife homestead, near Clifton, Upper St. Clair Township, about midnight on Tuesday, after a lingering illness with cancer. Mr. Fife was one of the best-known farmers in the Chartiers Valley and his family connections number into the thousands in Allegheny County. He was a descendent of the Fifes who settled in the Chartiers Valley in the eighteenth century. He was born on the same farm, 64 years ago, where his death took place. In early life he married a MISS MORGAN, of the same vicinity, by whom he is survived, together with three children. Mr. Fife was a farmer by occupation and conducted one of the prettiest and most extensive farms in the county. Unlike the majority of his relatives, who are Republican in politics, he was a staunch Democrat and had been the greater part of his life. He was a lifelong member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church, and took a great interest in church matters. His children are MRS. MABEL HODES, (Note: Should read - Mrs. Mabel Rhodes.) of Castle Shannon; MISS MARY, at home; and one son, MORGAN, of Upper St. Clair Township. MRS. HOPPER, of Oakdale, is a sister. The funeral services will take place this afternoon at 2 o'clock at his late residence, and burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.
