Anthony A. Amitrano Sr. (1920 - 2012)

FRANKLINVILLE - Anthony A. Amitrano Sr. of Pine Street died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at The Pines in Machias following a long illness.

Born Aug. 29, 1920, in Brooklyn, he was a son of Anthony and Josephine Vigilante Amitrano. On May 26, 1945, in Franklinville, he married Millicent Maffei, who survives.

Mr. Amitrano graduated from New Utrecht High School and attended Brooklyn Poly Tech. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. He worked for AVX of Olean for 25 years in research and development and then for Dresser-Rand for 10 years, retiring in 1986.

Tony delivered Meals on Wheels for more than 15 years, was a member of St. Philomena's Roman Catholic Church in Franklinville, was a charter and life member of the VFW Post 9487 of Franklinville and was a member of the American Legion Post 526 of Franklinville. A former member of the Franklinville Conservation Club, he was a life member of the Ischua Valley Historical Society and served as vice president on the board of directors. He also was a Cub and Boy Scout leader.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Anthony (Patricia) Amitrano Jr. of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Robert (Pam Hage) Amitrano of Lyndonville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Edward R. Amitrano; and three sisters, Ruth Vigilante, Eleanor Iacio and Frances Amitrano.

Burial with military honors will be held in Mount Prospect Cemetery in Franklinville.
