MARY MAYSON EVANS-BRYARLY was born in June of 1870 in Middleway, West Virginia to Alexander Mason Evans & Harriot Scullay-Evans.
Mary's father, Alexander Mason Evans, was born near Hedgesville, in Berkeley County, son of Howell and Evelyn Evans. Alexander M. Evans was a graduate of Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia, and practiced medicine at Middleway until his death at the age of fifty-five. He married Harriet Scollay. who was born at Middleway.
Mary's mother, Harriot Scollay-Evans was born at Midway, West Virginia. Harriot's father, Dr. Samuel Scullay, was a native of Boston, Massachusetts, and a member of an old family whose memory is perpetuated by Scullay Square in the heart of the City of Boston. Samuel Scullay studied medicine, and on coming South located at Middleway, where he engaged in practice for many years. His wife was Sally Nelson, a sister of Dr. Marion Page Nelson, and a daughter of Gen. Thomas Nelson, who was a distinguished American officer in the American Revolution.
Mary married Henry Payne Bryarly circa 1894 in Berkeley County, West Virginia, and they had FIVE children that are known of:
Harriet Scollay Bryarly-Pratt (1895-1991),
Richard Dunbar Bryarly (1897-1900),
Mary Payne Bryarly-Noggle (1901-?),
Harry Mason Bryarly (1907-?), and
Robert Pressley Bryarly (1910-1993).
Mary left a Will at Berkeley County, West Virginia, which was written on 10 November 1947, and probated on 27 February 1953.
