Laura was a very bright girl, her father decided to take her to hear a political debate. They went to hear the Lincoln-Douglas debate prior to Abraham Lincoln's election as President. Laura often told the family about the debate and how it had impressed her.
"As secretary of Mr Pleasant Sunday School, Laura kept neat records in a 40 cent bound notebook. The faded ink records those elected in the 1875 Sunday School Election.
Laura married Thomas Polk Pierce January 27, 1876 and had two children, Lucinda Pierce Ketchem and Grace Nettie Pierce. Grace had a daughter, Rose Henrietta Walker and a boy named Roy. Her brother was Edward Albert Waddell, the father of Mabel Edna Waddel, Hence, Mabel always called her "Aunt Laura."
