Howard W. Kann was a Union Soldier in Company G 138th Pennsylvania Infantry.

The son of Daniel & Henrietta Lucetta (Eyster) Kann, in 1850 he lived with the William Cushman family in Butler Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania, and in 1860, lived with and/or worked for farmer Samuel Houdyshell in Butler Township. He stood 5' 3" tall and had light hair and gray eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Middletown (Biglerville), Adams County, August 9, 1862, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 22 as a private with Co. G, 138th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was shot in the arm at the battle of the Wilderness May 5 or 6, 1864, but returned to duty and honorably discharged with his company June 23, 1865.

He married Adriannah M. Austin May 19, 1871, in Iowa and fathered Etta (b. @1872). Adriannah died in 1875, and he married Emma Susan Benner April 21, 1878, in Cheever, Dickinson County, Kansas, fathering Lilly May & Lula Maud (b. 10/25/78), Stella G. (b. 02/16/81), William Howard Benner (b. 08/24/83), Frank Daniel (b. 02/02/85), Grace Evelyn (b. 01/??/91 - married Alban Lorenzo Cook), John Kirsch (b. 04/06/94), and Gladys Ruth (b. 01/25/00 - married David Little Casey). By 1907, he was living in Spokane, Washington.
