Barbara Glea Weathered was born Oct. 3, 1932, in Norwich, Kan. to Charles and Mattie Weathered, the sixth of seven children.

Barbara graduated from Norwich High School and then attended Kansas State University and the University of Kansas School of Nursing. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Kansas.

She married Dr. Nelson Bachus on June 9 1956. They moved to Bremerton, Wash. where Nelson served his internship and Barbara worked as a registered nurse at the local hospital. In 1957 they were transferred to Great Lakes Naval Training Station and in April 1958 a son, Kevin Eugene was born. In December 1959 another son, Kent Nelson was born. Following transfers to several navy duty stations, they moved to Fort Collins, Colo. in 1964 where Nelson began private practice. Barbara remained at home to care for Kevin and Kent and also worked as needed in the office. Later they worked together in the operating room where Barbara was a valued member of the surgical team.

Barbara loved to quilt and do a variety of different handwork projects, including crocheting, knitting, cross stitch and her favorite, hardanger. She was an accomplished china painter, photographer, and fly fisher. She enjoyed travel and traveled many times to Europe and as well as China, Africa, Antarctica, the Arctic, Galapagos., Australia, and New Zealand, and all fifty states.

Her greatest love however was to spend time with family, enjoying quiet time with Nelson, skiing with the family, holidays with Kevin and wife, Vaundeen, Kent and wife, Phyllis or special vacations with grandchildren Katrina and Jacinda.

Her husband, Nelson; children, Kevin and wife, Vaundeen, Kent and wife, Phyllis; grandchildren, Katrina and Jacinda; brother, John Weathered and sisters, Marie Weathered, Fern Tilson, Martha Christiansen and Mary Simpson, survive her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to Faith Evangelical Free Church, the local Parkinson's support group or the charity of your choice in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, July 16, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Faith Evangelical Free Church, 3920 S Shields St. Pastor Forest Saylor will officiate the service. A Private inurnment will be held at Grandview Cemetery.
