The funeral was held here on Saturday morning at 8:30 o'clock, of John B GARRAH, 89, who died at his residence on North Street on Thursday last. He was born at Howe Island on March 12, 1856, a son of the late Israel GARRAH and his wife Mary (sic) Gonyeau. (This is an error – his mother was Agnes GAGNON). In his early days he has been employed on the island by the Calvin Company as a shipbuilder, going to Valleyfield, Que and then coming to Gananoque. He was employed by Mitchell & Wilson, the Skinner Company, and Ontario Steel Products Co. He was a member of St John's Church and the Holy Name Society. He is survived by his wife the former Mrs Fontaine, four sons John, Thomas and Frank, town, and Joseph of Sudbury, and three daughters, Mrs E Compeau (Rose) of Castleman, Ont; Mrs Osias Marleau (Julia) of L'Annunciation, Que; and Mrs Wilmer Hampton (Jane) of town; also one full sister Mrs Robert Keyes, town; three half brothers, Israel and Thomas of Howe Island, and Henry, town; two half sisters Mrs Patrick Kane, Howe Island and Mrs Goodfriend, Chaumont, NY. One son, William, was killed in the First Great War, and one daughter, Mrs Joseph Compeau (Agnes) predeceased him a few years ago. The funeral service was held at St John's Church where Rev R A Carey sung high requiem mass. Interment took place at St John's Cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Keyes, Walter Keyes, Mayor James Lawson, Henry GARRAH, town, and Thomas GARRAH, Howe Island.
