Linda L. Northup, 60, of Gladwin, died Thursday, April 23, 1998 at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland after being ill for one year due to leukemia. Born Oct. 7, 1937 in Petoskey, she lived in Gladwin County since 1965, and previously lived in Harrison. She was the Adult and Continuing Education Director for Gladwin Community Schools, retiring in 1998. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gladwin. Northup served on both the state Community Education Committee and Adult Education Committee for MACAE (Michigan Association of Community and Adult Education).

In 1996, she was named to the Michigan State Board of the MACAE, the governing body of Michigan Adult Education, where she was appointed chairman of the membership committee. She was also active in her regional organization - NMACAE - Northern Michigan Association of Community and Adult Education, serving districts from Clare to Mackinaw City. She served for two years as president of that organization in 1994 and 1995. She was also a member of the Michigan Alternative Education Organization, and the Michigan Parks and Recreation Association.

Locally, she served on the Clare/Gladwin Literacy Council, two of those years as president. She was named Outstanding Administrator of the Year 1998 from Michigan Alternative Education Organization.
Linda married Nels Northup, Aug. 30, 1958 in Boyne City.

Besides her husband she is survived by three daughters, Lynnell and husband Dennis Wakley of Marshall, Lori and husband Bill Bailey of Beaverton, and Jennifer and husband Tony Witer of , Sidney, Ohio; her mother and stepfather, Leone and Buddy Dewing of Albuquerque, N.M.; one brother, John and wife Carlene Bricker of Broomfield, Colo.; and six grandchildren.

Services, were held at 4 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Gladwin, with Rev. Dr. Deane B. Wyllys officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gladwin Educational Fund or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were in charge of Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel.
