Mr. Rufus W. Osgood, an old and valued citizen of Marin County, died at his residence in San Rafael, Sunday last.  Mr. Osgood was formerly a dairyman, which occupation he followed at Novato, but has lived in San Rafael for many years.  In 1868 he was elected County Clerk, in which office he served the people until 1870.  He was appointed Under Sheriff by Sheriff Watson, and filled that office the full term.  He has served this district as a School Trustee, and was a trustworthy and highly respected citizen.  He was a member of Marin Lodge, No. 200, IOOF, in which he had enjoyed the highest honors, being a P.N.G.  Mr. Osgood leaves a widow and 4 noble sons, 3 of whom are in commercial pursuits, and one, the youngest, at home.  Mrs. G. Angelotti and Mrs. J.W. Atherton are sisters of the deceased.  His funeral took place from his late residence, Tuesday, and was attended by a large body of friends.  He was but 47 years of age, and had been ill for only 3 or 4 weeks.  His disease was cancer of the stomach.
