C. Davis Blackwelder, 70, Ex-Reynolds Official, Dies
C. Davis Blackwelder, 70, retired vice president of Reynolds Metals Co., died Thursday at his home on Highland rd.
Mr. Blackwelder attended Furman University and completed his engineering training through extension courses. He was a registered professional engineer in 36 states.
In 1922 he joined J.E. Sirrine and Co., engineers, of Greenville, S.C. and in 1937 was named a partner of the firm.
He was elected a vice president of Reynolds Metals Co. in 1944 and in 1945 he was named vice president of Reynolds Internacional de Mexico, S.A. and vice president of Reynolds Reduction Co. in 1953.
He was a consulting engineer for the company's operations division from 1955 until his retirement in 1959.
Mr. Blackwelder was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, Virginia Society of Professional Engineers and the South Carolina Society of Engineers.
Mr. Blackwelder is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen McL. Blackwelder; a daughter, Mrs. Russell C. Scott of Richmond; a sister, Mrs. W.W. Lipscomb of Greenville, S.C., and a brother, Samuel S. Blackwelder of Dania, Fla.
A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, with burial in Hollywood Cemetery.
The family requests that flowers be omitted.
