WALTER EDWARD COLLINS, 86, a resident of Golden Years Homestead, Fort Wayne and a former resident of Andrews, died at 7 pm. Thursday(July 1, 1999) at the Fort Wayne facility.
Mr. Collins was a cabinet maker and was employed for 35 years at Kitchen Maid/Caswell's in Andrews. He was a charter member of the Northview Church of Christ, Huntington, joining that congregation in 1976. He had been a Sunday school member, teacher and elder at the Andrews Christian Chuirch.
He was born in Huntington County on Jan. 27, 1913, to Burley and Olena Warner Collins. He graduated from Andrews High School in 1931. On April 14, 1934, in Huntington, he married Thelma Wilson. Mrs. Collins died on June 21, 1988.
Survivors include a son, Ronald W. Collins, Leo; two grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William "Bill" Collins, and a sister, Berniece Harber.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at the Northview Chruch of Christ, with James E. Myers and Ronald W. Collins officiating. Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, of Huntington will be handling the arrangements. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Andrews.
