Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2012 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron. Father Roger Linnan and Deacon Richard Port will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation with the family present will be from 10:00 a.m. until the service time on Monday at the church and following the service during a time of lunch and fellowship at the Parish Hall. There will also be a visitation on Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa. The Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron is in charge of local arrangements. The Kessler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements in Exira. Susan Marie Turner was born March 26, 1950, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Beverly (Gibbons) Turner. Early on, she was raised in Council Bluffs until moving to Atlantic, Iowa. She attended school in Atlantic and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1968.
Following her schooling, she went to work for Meyer Music in Atlantic.
She was united in marriage to Craig Simonsen on May 15, 1971 in Atlantic. The couple made their home in Exira, Iowa. Later, Sue went to work for Kozy Manufacturing in Exira and later worked as a secretary for the Exira Care Center. When her husband was transferred with his work to several towns, she worked for several companies before they settled in Akron, Iowa. Sue worked for local businesses until retiring due to her health.
Through the years, Sue enjoyed reading, golfing, and boating. She also enjoyed motorcycle riding with her husband and riding in the corvette. She loved her three kittens that she adopted. But most of all, she loved the times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her husband of over 41 years, Craig of Akron; her son: Scott Simonsen (Kristie) of Sheldon, Iowa and their children, Mikayla and Keely; 2 sisters: Marcia Gustafson (Steve) of Omaha, NE, and Karen Primeau (Robert) of Reno, NV; her mother in law: Betty Simonsen of Exira, IA; her step mother: Marge Turner of Atlantic, IA; her sister in law: Julie Christensen (Paul) of Brayton, IA; and 4 nephews: Kevin Turner and Jason Turner, both of Omaha, NE, Justin Christensen (Jill) of Rock Rapids, IA, and Jeremy Christensen (Charity) of Grimes, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother: Greg Turner; and her father in law: Carl Simonsen.
