John served during the Revolutionary War at Fort Independence, near Peekskill, for six months from July 1776 to January 1, 1777. Discharged at Nicoll's Point. Served under Major Thompson, a Continental Officer, and Capt. John Nicoll who commanded a company of militia from New Windsor. He was at Nicoll's Point (New Windsor) from the spring or 1777 to 6 October 1777 as Artificer under Capt. Benjamin Homan and Capt. Thomas Machin. He served along the shore to prevent British from landing for about six weeks. He rejoined the company of militia of Capt. John Nicoll after the fall of Fort Montgomery. He was on the frontier at Mamakating in 1778 for one month under Capt. Samuel Clark; Nepinoy 1779 for half a month under Isaiah Robinson: Nepinoy later in 1779 for one month under Ensign Crowl.

Gravesite Details

Though he is related to be buried in Horseheads that is very doubtful as he lived in Orange County, New York and died there. His widow, Hannah removed to Horseheads very late in life.
