Surfman Henry Wickman was stationed at the Tillamook Bay Life-Saving Station for barely six weeks when his crew was called out to assist with the evacuation of crew and passengers of the steamer Argo that had wrecked on the bar. Their surf boat was capsized as it attempted to reach the shore. Henry and two passengers, Mrs. L. A. Holdrege and a little girl named Nellie Hunter, were drowned. His body was never recovered.
