Mrs. Ida Rodgers Shaffer, 89, widow of James William Shaffer, died Wednesday in a Manning nursing home after a long illness.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Nesmith Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Morris Funeral Home.
Mrs. Shaffer was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Owen [James] Furman and Matilda Freeman Rodgers. She was the oldest member of Nesmith Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ida Mae Tanner of Nesmith; three sons, Charles R. Shaffer of Athen, Ga., Albert W. Shaffer of Corpus Christi, Tex. and James W. Shaffer of San Francisco, Calif.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
