Ezekiel was the father of Ezekiel Johnson the father of Joel Hills Johnson. After his relationship with Bethia Guernsey he may have enlisted in the Continental Army in 1777 and served in the 3rd Dutchess County Regiment. Following the war he possibly lived for a time in Connecticut and eventually settled in Kortright, New York where he became an influential member of the community. He was married twice, first to Lois Thayer of Dutchess County New York the daughter of Josiah and Elizabeth (Adams) Thayer. Lois died at Pawling, New York in January of 1788 and about 1795 Ezekiel moved to Kortright where he was married to Patty Webster the daughter of Elihu Webster of New London, Connecticut. She probably outlived him as she is mentioned in Ezekiel's will with their son Elihu Webster Johnson in 1808. Ezekiel's gravestone states that he was 57 years old when he died in 1808. He fathered four children by each wife for a total of eight. (Alt. death date August 23rd.)

In his History of Delaware County W. W. Munsell notes:

Prominent among the new settlers was Ezekiel Johnson, from Connecticut... He built a sawmill and did a large business in farming and lumbering. He built a large and substantial frame house, which was painted white and is still known as the "white house" although the paint has long since disappeared. In the early days of the town it was used as a hotel... Mr. Johnson presented to the town a piece of ground for a burying place, and it is still used for that purpose. He was twice married, and had a large family of children, most of who removed from the town...

It is a truth we Daily find
