Johnson W. Avant, 87, of Georgetown, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, in Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, at 1 p.m. in Maryville Pentecostal Holiness Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Tommy Cox. Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home, will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Avant was born Sept. 18, 1918, in Georgetown, a son of the late Robert D. Avant and Agnes Cribb Avant.

He was a retired employee with International Paper Company. He was a World War II Army veteran. He served in the European Theater and was a member of the Normandy Invasion. He was a member of Georgetown Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are his wife, Margie L. Avant of Georgetown; a son Tony D. Avant of Union, Ky.; two daughters, Teresa Odom and Darlene Howard of Georgetown; five grandchildren, Fonda Odom and Lacie Avant, both of Myrtle Beach, Lucas Avant of Union, Ky., and Kelsey Howard and Kellie Howard, both of Georgetown; and a number of nieces and nephews.
