John Link, Sr.

John Link, Sr., a long time resident of LaHarpe, died at his home Wednesday afternoon, January 22, 1813, at the advanced age of 84 years, 8 months and 14 days.

Mr. Link was born at Stanton, Virginia, May 8, 1828. His parents moved to Delaware, Ohio, where he lived about fifteen years, coming to Illinois in 1866 and has lived in this vicinity the greater part of the time since.

Mr. Link was married three times. His first marriage was to Miss Sarah E. Reed, March 22, 1849 of Deleware [sic], Ohio. Seven children were born to this union, John, Thomas, Robert, James, Maggie (Bainter), Rena Cassingham of Mattison, Col., and May Ellen. Three are dead--Robert, Maggie and May.

His second marriage was to Eliza J. Shaffer [sic], and to them was born one son, Frank, of Sunbury, Ohio.

His third marriage was to Harriet J. Shores, Sept. 30, 1880, who survives him. The children born of this union are Fannie (Mrs. Cather), George, Leslie, Ethel, Rolla and Clifford all of LaHarpe. He has one brother, David Link of Avon.

John Link was a worthy citizen and will be missed in the home and by his associates. He was industrious as long as the condition of his health would permit and his influence and efforts were always enlisted in the cause of good government and civic purity. His death was largely due to the infirmities of age.

The funeral occurred at the Congregational church Saturday morning at 11:30 o'clock, Rev. Charles F. Sheldon, of Abingdon, officiating. Burial in LaHarpe cemetery.
