My father, Frank Ellis Hawkins, was born in Hart County, Kentucky, to Owen Frank Hawkins and Cordelia Annis Greer. He was one of 10 children. Frank married Barbara Joyce Sullivan on 15 April 1955 in Louisville, Kentucky. Frank and Barbara met at Hall Seed Company, where he worked as a farm machinery mechanic and she as a bookkeeper/secretary. Dad's favorite pastimes were fishing and gardening. He knew all the farmers around Louisville, so we spent a lot of time fishing for bass, crappie, and bluegill in their local ponds. He grew all kinds of vegetables in his backyard garden and loved working in the soil.
