Bill's grandmother was nee Elizabeth Merritt and it was her family he was named after, the name has been misspelled as Murrat. This family spelled their name as Armor except for two sons, William "Clayborn" Armour and John H. Armour. Clayborn said his name was misspelled on his first paycheck and it would take two weeks to get a corrected check back and he couldn't wait that long. He regretted the error.

William was in the Confederate Army, Co. K, 33rd Alabama Regiment, Infantry . He enlisted 25 April 1862 in Greenville, Alabama, and continued until May 1865 when he was paroled at Greensborough North Carolina.
