Beloved husband, father, brother and friend, George Dale Kirby, age 63, died Wednesday, August 4, 2004. Although cancer took his life he faced this challenge with courage and hope and never lost the unfailing optimism that characterized his life. George was born April 29, 1941 in Salt Lake City, Utah to George Teasdale Kirby and Elsie Smith. He married Marietta Barton, August 6, 1965 in the Salt Lake Temple. George graduated from Cyprus High School in 1959. He earned a degree from the University of Utah in business administration and worked for Kennecott Copper Corporation for 34 years. George was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the West Mexican Mission and in a variety of later callings. He especially loved serving with the youth. George was truly happiest when he was in the service of others. George loved the outdoors, spending time with his family hiking, canyoneering and water skiing. He is survived by his wife, Marietta: their children: Shawn (Kimberly) Kirby, Kristen Kirby, Scott (Amy) Kirby, Ryan (Kristin) Kirby, Eric Kirby; four grandchildren; two sisters: Diane (Ardell) Duncan, Janine (Bruce) Nichols. Preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Sat., at the Taylorsville 12th Ward, 4505 South 3420 West. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
