LaMar Grant "Swede" Thurston, 29, formerly Annabella resident, who died on January 3, 1953 in a Los Angeles hospital, of injuries recieved in an automobile accident. His wife, LaVern was seriously injuried and was in the same hospital.

The accident happened at 11 p.m. at Norfolk Blvd and Imperial Highway. The sheriff were answering an urgent request for assistance from another officer and were traveling north on Norfolk Blvd, using red light and siren. The officers said a motorcycle that was traveling west on Imperial Highway came to stop at the intersection. Instant later the Thurston auto was seen westbound, but too late to avoid the collison.

The Thurston were returning to their home in Downey, California after spending the Christmas holidays with families in Annabella, Utah and Aurora, Utah.

He was born October 4, 1923 in Annabella, Utah. He was the seventh child of 9 children to Glen Walker and Laura Lula Williams Thurston.

He was married to LaVern Taylor on June 9, 1945 in Richfield, Utah.

He attended school in Annabella and South Sevier High School in Monroe, Utah where he graduated. He attended at Agricultural College in Cedar City, Utah for a year. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the South Pacific area with the U.S. Army for 2 1/2 years (1946-1948).

He was employed at the Firestone Tire Co. at the time of his death.

He was a member of LDS Church and for the past seven years had made his home in Southern California.

Survivors widow and a daughter, Marsha LaVern Thurston, Los Angeles, California; three brothers: Glen Warren Thurston and Donnell Thurston, both Annabella, Utah; Rulon T. Thurston, South Gate, California; five sisters: Mr. P Maurice (Fauntell) Daniels and LuDean Thurston, both Annabella, Utah; Mrs. Hugh (Rozella) Hawley, Long Beach, California; Mrs. Harold (Beula) Hawkins, Richfield, Utah; Mrs. Kent (Zoe) Sargent, Marysvale, Utah.

Funeral services were held on Thursday January 8, 1953 at the Annabella LDS Ward and burial in Aurora Cemetery under direction of Peterson Mortuary, Richfield, Utah.
