Jean Allen, 89, of Worthington, formerly of South Shore, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, in Trinity Station in Flatwoods, where she resided for the past five years.

She was born March 11, 1925, in Hominy Falls, W.Va., a daughter of the late Foy Jackson and Ruby Susan Smith Orndorff. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dewey Allen in 1974; her son-in-law, Joseph Stanton Stucki; and special friend Wayne Conrad.

Jean was a retired lingerie department head for JCPenney's, a Kentucky colonel, a former member of the Greenup County Homemakers, volunteer for Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital and coordinator for the craft exhibits for the Greenup County Fair. She loved her church, Worthington Nazarene, and was an active member.

She never forgot her home state of West Virginia and enjoyed reminiscing about her life growing up there. She was a graduate of Richwood High School. Jean loved traveling and gardening, but most of all she loved her family, who meant everything to her.

She was a beloved mother and cherished her grandchildren, especially her newest great-grandchild, Olivia, who was the light of her life. The most memorable thing about her was that she was an inspiration to all she met. She loved people and always saw the good in them. She never met a stranger and greeted all with her beautiful, heartfelt smile and easy laughter.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Ann Allen Stucki of Ashland and Susan Elizabeth (Perry) Allen Madden of Flatwoods; three sons, James Edward (Sandy) Allen of High Point, N.C., Thomas Dewey (Saundra) Allen of Ashland and Foy Wesley (Deana) Allen of Raceland; one brother, Jennings Nolan Orndorff of Lewisburg, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren, Jenny Dawn (Mike) Thomas, Mary Lisa (David) Yedo, Kathleen Marie Jones, Stanton Alan Stucki, Shelby Lynn Allen, Molly Rebecca Allen, Shannon Wayne (Jenny) Underwood, Kristy Lynn Allen (Jonathan) Scheibly, Angela Marie Madden (Matt Shorr), Kelly Renee Madden, Adam Wesley Allen and Grace Lee Allen; and six great-grandchildren, Kara Paige McClendon, Spencer Scott Shafer, Brianna Marie Jones, Merin Sophia Scheibly, Liam Thomas Scheibly and Olivia May Shorr.

A celebration of her life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at the Penile United Methodist Church in Hominy Falls by the Rev. Randolph Simms.

Burial will follow in the Hominy Falls Cemetery in Hominy Falls. Friends may call after 6 p.m. with a memorial service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at the Worthington Nazarene Church by Pastor David Seals.

Evans Funeral Home in Raceland is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
