HERBERT J. ELLIOTT, PROMINENT POLK MAN, SUMMONED BY DEATH

Herbert James Elliott, prominent Polk county resident, died Saturday morning in Portland after an illness of several months. Funeral services were held today in the Dallas Methodist church.

Mr. Elliott was born in Peterboro, Ontario, Canada, Sept. 1872, the son of James and Abigal Mann Elliott. In 1883 he came with them to Dallas to make his home. He was graduated from the Oregon State college in 1897 and in 1901 married Lizzie Wyatt. He was a member of the state senate in 1927 and was a member of the board of regents of Oregon State college. He was also a member of the Methodist church, Eastern Star and Masonic lodge of Amity and of the Al Kader Shrine of Portland.

Surviving are Mrs. Elliott, two daughters, Mrs. Wanda Chapin, Perrydale, and Mrs. Leone Covert, Philadelphia, Pa.; and one foster son, Earl Wyatt, Perrydale.

Interment was in the Belcrest Memorial cemetery at Salem.
