The couple in all had seven grandchildren: Robin, Karen, Susan (1960-2011), Tim, Carl, Duane, and Keith. The couple had a ranch in Denair, California. Opal was in charge of all money matters fro the ranch. She was very frugal. It was once said Opal could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped. Opal always spoke her mind. She loved her family and her grandchildren very much. She suffered many years with cancer. She had a box full of pills she would take on a daily basis, the disease finally got the best of Opal, though she put up a brave fight, she passed away at age 82. Carl Hamlow followed just seven months later.
