Services were held May 5 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home for Eugenia Birdsong Godwin of 3708 Hawthorne Dr., Dr. Clay Lee officiated. Mrs. Godwin, one of the state's first female senior executives, died in her Jackson home May 2 following hospitalization for a heart attack. When World War II mobilization took many of the family advertising firm's young men, housewife "Genie" Godwin came to the aid of her husband, George W. Godwin, who had founded Mississippi's first advertising agency in 1937. Her role in the ad agency grew rapidly to include all the duties of business manager in addition to supervision of the media and accounting departments. She relinquished this owner-manager role after her husband's death and her own illness in 1968.

She is survived by her son, George W. Godwin Jr.; her brother, Charles H. Birdsong of Winter Haven, Fla. and Marion, N.C.; three nephews; six grandchildren, George W. Godwin III of Austin, Texas, Reg. Army Capt. Rhys B. Godwin, Fort Benning, the Rev. Michael L. Godwin of Okemos, Mich., Mary Godwin Hauer of Phoenix, Ariz., Dana E. Godwin of Houston, Texas and Donald K. Godwin of Jackson; and seven great grandchildren. Pallbearers were John Henry Carney, George Griffin Lewis, Ed S. Lewis III, M. Lyle Carroll, Bryant Allen and Tom W. Crockett Jr.
Burial was in the Terry Cemetery.
