Husband of Mary S. Lopp Sonner

Isaac Sonner died at his residence in Scott township, Harrison county, Indiana at 12:25 p.m. July 11th, 1878, aged 78 years, 5 months and 24 days.

He was born the 17th of January, 1800, in Shanandoah [sic.] county, Virginia. He emigrated to this State and county with his father's family in 1817 and settled near New Amsterdam in 1823. He united in holy wedlock with Miss Mary Lopp, he then removed to Scott township and settled near Blue River, seven miles west of Corydon, at which place he resided up to his death. His marriage relations were pleasant and congenial and blessed with eleven children, nine of whom are still living, three sons and six daughters. He has twenty-five grand-children. He wife died about eight years ago, after which time he was confined to his room by sickness almost continually up to his death, the immediate cause of which was inflammation of the bowels, with which he suffered eleven days. He joined the Mt. Solomon Evangelical Lutheran church in 1888, in which he maintained a steadfast and consistent membership up to death. After the age of 18 he became a member of the State malitia [sic.], in which he held the position of captain, and was promoted to the office of Major, but never served in that capacity, owing to the repeal of the muster law. He was very devoted in his convictions, both religiously and politically, and fearlessly defended his faith in both. In politics he was Democratic and was regarded as a representative man in his township and in the county. --The Corydon Democrat (Corydon, Indiana); 22 July 1878; pg. 5, col. 3
