Obituary:
Oscar (Bubba) Grant Ezell was born August 23, 1923, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Archie Floyd and Edith Trammell Ezell. He died Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Athens Limestone Hospital.

After graduation from the Florence Teachers' College (UNA), Mr. Ezell taught school for 32 years in Eagle Pass, Texas, and in Limestone County at Hays Mill, Tanner, and Piney Chapel. While teaching at Piney Chapel, he received the award for Outstanding Teachers of America for 1972. Dr. V. Gilbert Beers, Director of the National Education Awards Program, cited Mr. Ezell as an "exceptional teacher."

Even though he was born with a crippling disability, Mr. Ezell led an active life as a young man, playing tennis, bowling, and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his wife Imogene West Ezell, who died in childbirth, along with their infant son.

Others preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Douglas and Estill Ezell and two sisters, Emogene Christopher and Marjorie Tennison, and brother-in-law, Marvin Christopher.

He is survived by nephews Larry Christopher of Huntsville, Stewart Christopher of Denver, CO, Steve Ezell of Athens, and Grant Ezell of St. Louis, MO. Nieces surviving him are Gwen Christopher and Cathy Wales (and husband Ronnie) of Athens. He is survived by sister-in-law, Mary Nell Tennison Ezell and brother-in-law, James B. Tennison. Several great and great-great nephews and nieces are also survived by him.

Pallbearers will be Larry Christopher, Ronnie Wales, Steve Ezell, Will Ezell, Tommy Ezell, and John Mitchell.

Honorary pallbearers are Stewart, Tyler, and Corey Christopher; Grant, Jason, and Adam Ezell; and James B. Tennison.

Funeral arrangements will be conducted by Limestone Chapel Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 26, with visitation scheduled for 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., followed by a graveside service at 5:00 at Todd Cemetery.
