Real Estate Developer. He built Hollywood's Roosevelt Hotel and Graumann's Chinese Theater. In 1914 Toberman acquired ten acres of land in Hollywood for $70,000 and was known as Las Colinas Heights. The area is now known as Outpost Estates. He sold the land to Jesse Lasky in 1922 for $157,000. In 1926, Toberman built and resided in a Spanish style mansion located at 1847 Camino Palmero Street in Hollywood. In the 1930s when the Outpost area was really growing, Toberman built a model home that was fireproof, termite proof, impervious to wear and was also earthquake resistant. The home was located at 2227 Outpost Drive and once completed it was purchased by actor Bela Lugosi. Toberman built nearly all the major buildings that remain from Hollywood's "Golden Age", the Roosevelt Hotel, Graumann's Chinese and Egyptian Theatres and the El Capitan Theatre, among others. Toberman also built the Brevoort Hotel at 6326 Lexington and the Garden Court Apartment Hotel at 7021 Hollywood Blvd. In all he built 30 major buildings and a half dozen residential subdivisions including Los Angeles' Outpost Estates - said to be one of the most carefully planned subdivisions in the country. In addition, Toberman served as Hollywood's city treasurer for a time and as President Emeritus of the Hollywood Bowl Association. Toberman lived the last years of his life in his home at 7150 La Presa Drive in the Outpost Estates area where he died following a long illness. His son Homer was a real estate developer and builder and constructed a number of homes in the Outpost area following WWII.
